About the Role
As a Mechanical Engineer at Naveera, you'll own the mechanical design of our IoT and edge devices from concept through production. You will be responsible for enclosures, thermal requirements, thermal constraints, sensor placement, manufacturability, and field durability, ensuring our devices can operate reliably in real-world fleet and edge environments. This role is ideal for someone who can balance thermal, mechanical, environmental, and production needs while working closely with electrical, firmware, and manufacturing teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop enclosures and mechanical systems for IoT and edge devices from concept through production
- Own thermal design for devices, including thermal requirements, thermal constraints, heat dissipation strategies, and thermal validation
- Define and optimize placement of thermal sensors and other critical components to support reliable system performance
- Design for harsh operating conditions including heat, vibration, dust, moisture, and long-duration field use
- Collaborate with electrical, firmware, and hardware teams to ensure mechanical design supports board layout, connectors, antennas, cameras, sensors, cooling, and serviceability
- Select materials, fastening methods, seals, gaskets, and structural features appropriate for product requirements and operating environments
- Perform mechanical and thermal analysis, tolerance reviews, and design tradeoff studies to improve reliability and manufacturability
- Build prototypes, support bring-up, and validate designs through thermal, vibration, fit, and environmental testing
- Work with manufacturers and suppliers to support DFM, DFA, tooling, pilot builds, and production ramp
- Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, assembly documentation, test procedures, and manufacturing documentation
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of mechanical engineering experience developing production hardware or IoT devices
- Strong experience designing enclosures and mechanical assemblies for electronics or embedded devices
- Strong understanding of thermal management for compact electronic systems, including passive cooling, airflow, heat spreading, and thermal constraints
- Experience working with thermal sensors, mechanical integration of electronics, and component placement tradeoffs
- Proficiency with CAD tools for 3D modeling and mechanical design
- Experience with material selection, tolerance stack-up, fastening strategies, and manufacturing constraints
- Experience designing for reliability, durability, and real-world environmental conditions
- Ability to work cross-functionally with electrical, firmware, manufacturing, and product teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with fleet, automotive, industrial, or edge devices deployed in harsh environments
- Experience with thermal simulation, FEA, or related analysis tools
- Familiarity with ingress protection, sealing strategies, EMI-related enclosure considerations, and environmental compliance requirements
- Experience supporting EVT, DVT, PVT, and handoff to manufacturing
- Background in camera systems, sensor housings, telematics devices, or other connected hardware products
- Experience working with contract manufacturers, tooling vendors, and injection molded or die-cast parts
